Yesterday, when we went sailing I had a lot of fun. We had 2 new instructors and their names were Pat and Greg. I was not in neither of there group. But before we went on the boat we learned how jibing a boat. We practiced like we were on boats. Jibing is just turning the opposite way of tacking. But its a scary part of jibing, if you don't pull the cord on the sail when you turn, the boom will swing across really fast. When we practiced it on the boat it was very fun. I had a good time!

Tuesday was one of our sailing days. We went over two ways to turn the boat. We went over tacking. That's when you turn the boat into the wind. We've pretty much captured how to do that. Next we learned how to jib. Jibing is when you turn your boat away from the wind. On the boat that I was on we learned pretty quickly. We will still need some work on it, but we pretty much have it. I also learned that you have to let down the mainsail when you jib. If you don't do this the boom will swing across quickly, and it may cause danger. I also learned how to work more better with people. I've learned that it's about the experience, just enjoy it while you can. This is what I've learned so far. My Second day at sailing

My second day of experience was very fun. I learned more and more things. I learned more parts of the boat, for example the main sheet, jib sheet, tiller, port starboard, and rudder. We had new sailing teachers Pat and the other I forgot. I went with Pat. He was very nice . I was very hot because the sun was hitting my face. So Pat let me use his hat. He also review the parts of the boat twice and there is when I learned more parts of the boat. We learned a new skill called jibbing. When you jib you you turn the opposite way of tacking. On tacking you face the wind but when you jib you face the back of the boat to the wind. That is the new skill I learn. We finish sailing but the bad thing was that we were on the no go zone that means there is no wind. So we could go faster. We also learned how to put together the parts of the boat more. At the end we put back the boat where it was and put the covers back where they were at first. That was the second good experience at sailing.

I am currently in a Sailing Program, that I was selected to be in for my academic performance, behavior, classwork, attendance, and homework.When we went yesterday to the Sailing Program we learned about jibing. Jibing is went you turn away from the wind, which can be dangerous at some point. It is dangerous and can be scary at some points because you can move away from the wind and the wind is behind you and your turn can be too fast and you can flip over, depending on the speed of the wind and also how fast you are going.

We have learned how to tack. To tack means to do a turn and tilt. When you tack you go into the wind, which makes you go slower. We also learned how to steer. The part that you steer the boat with is called the tiller. When you turn, you turn the opposite way that you want to go. For example, if you want to go left, you would push the tiller to the right. When you are steering you have to switch to the side that you are pushing the tiller to.

We have learned about the jib. When you tack you have to use this because it helps you turn because the jib has to be even with the sail. When you tack, you take the extra rope from the sail and you pull the jib rope and you will be tacking. We also know that the boat should be equal. For example, there are four people on the boat. That means that two people on the other side so that the boat won't lean to one side, it could be straight. K.W.

I have learned not to hit the sequoia because it's the President's boat,

It's not safe to wear a coat,

Because the strings on your coat might get caught in part of the sail boat,

I learned how to steer,

I learned how to tack,

Boys and girls put that life jacket on before you back,

Don't get scared 'Hey' it's how a boat is built,

What a Day at the Main Sail !!!!!

On Thursday I had an awesome time at sailing. I didn't know what to expect. Ms.Blair was so nice to everyone. Ms.Blair taught us the parts of a sailboat. Like the main sail, jib, jib halyard and much, much more. When, we were on the boat I was terrified. I thought were going to tip over. But, I had on a life jacket. I also learned to never wear boots because if you fall of the boat and you got on boots the boots will drag you down. Boots are very heavy. Even though it was cold and I was scared I had a nice time. At the sailing program,we learned about different parts and names of a boat. First we played a greeting game with Ms. Blair and she gave us skittles. Each color had a question we had to answer.That was fun. Then we went down to the actual boats and learned the different parts of the boats.I learned that on a boat if you want to move in the right direction,you move in the opposite direction.We learned about the Jib Sheets and the Main Halyard.Then,we went into another portion where the boats were and we sat in the boats.One person had to feed and the other person had to pull the rope so the flag would go up.We were working together even though an amount of people were in a boat.I know that if we were in a real situation, we could get out of it quickly.But when we sat in the boat,every time Ms. Blair stepped on one of our boats, it kind of leaned and it was so scary.No offense to myself but the best part was when I kept on getting scared and screamed. But I appreciated that every time we made a mistake, Ms. Blair said it was OK because we were just learning.The Sailing Program trip was and still is the best place I've ever been!

What we learned yesterday was totally fun.I learned when you want to stop the boat you will have to go in the direction the wind is blowing.I learned when you pull the flag up it is called feeding.I learned when your on the boat your right is called starboard and your left is called port. I learned when you move the boat out you have to move the Rudder.I learned when your wearing a life jacket it would keep you up in the water. I learned that they keep an extra paddle just in case of an emergency.I learned that their is no matter in the boat.I also learned that their is a Jib, Main sail, Jib halyard, and a Main halyard.Thanks for listening to my trip of sailing.

Dear Ms.Blair,

Yesterday I had a lot of fun learning how to sail a boat. I really learned allot, like pulling the flag up is called feeding the sail. I also learned parts of a boat, like the hull is the bottom. I learned that a main mast is the top part of the flag, and I also learned that port means go left and starboard means go right. I saw people crewing really fast, that was interesting. When you want stop a motor boat you cant just turn off the motor you have to turn the boat to where the most wind is coming from. I really enjoyed myself, I cant wait to finally get to really go on the water, see you soon!!!

What we did yesterday is that we learned how to put the boat's sail up. We also learned that if everyone was to get on the same side of the boat, everyone would fall out and I know that because the boat tipped over a little. Also Ms Blaire showed us how to make sure a life jacket is secured. She also showed us what not to stand on and diffrent parts of the boat. Here's another thing, I just want to say thank you Ms. Blaire, I had a very,very great time.

Yesterday we went sailing. We had allot of fun. The teacher Blair, at first showed us the names of the parts of the boat. Then we went to her boat to get the life jacket. So if we fell into the water we were going to float not sink!!Then we went to the boats that we are going to sail on next time. She was teaching us how to put everything in order, so the next time we can do it by ourselves. Then we returned the life jackets and thanked the teacher. JibJ

What I learned in boating class is that there's different types of names on the boat.There's the MainMast, and Sheet. A Sheet helps pull the MainMast.There's a Jib and a Jibsheet.I learned what Port and Starboard means. Starboard means right when you are ready to turn right.Port means left when you are ready to turn left.And when you are ready to stop face the wind. Also there's this part of the boat called the Boom.And when it turns it can hit you in the head and say Boom!!!! And if you are a first time Sailor like me you should duck your head!!!!Starboard H.

Yesterday, when I went to the sailing program we learned about all of the different parts of the boat. Like we learned about the centerboard, the centerboard helps the sailboat go straight even if the wind is blowing from the side. We learned how to put the top of the sail on the mast, and we learned how to pull it up and down. I learned that you should not go sailing when it is a thunderstorm.It was fun yesterday but I cant wait until we really go sailing in the water.

Yesterday was the first day of the sailing program. We went to the place and learned alot about sailboats. We learned that the tall pole is called the mast. We also learned that the centerboard allows the boat to go straight. another thing we learned was that the two sails are called the main sail, and the jib sail. When we got in the boat we learned that our body weight effects the boat. So that's why we put equal people on each side of the boat. While in the boat you have to follow directions, because if you don't something wrong will happen in the boat. These are a couple of things I've learned about sailing.
